Knowing God

Sacred Space

One unique way students at Genesee Country are encouraged to grow in their relationship with God is through the experience of Sacred Space.  Several times a year a few days are set aside for students and staff to come to the library for a mini retreat. Furnished with cushions, soft lighting, praise music, Bibles, writing and art materials the space provides a quiet place to pray, worship, read God’s Word and experience His presence.  Students discover that sometimes God speaks to us in a still, small voice that is more easily heard when we quiet our hearts and minds. He also speaks to us when we think about nature, look at or create art and meditate on His Word.

Students worshipping during chapel on Fridays.

Friday mornings Kindergarten through eighth grade students gather for a Chapel service.  After a time of praise and worship lead by worship leader Nate Carey, students separate into two groups for age appropriate lessons on a variety of topics.  Chapel themes have included studies of the Apostles’ Creed, the Ten Commandments, the Fruits of the Spirit, principles from Rick Warren’s Purpose Driven Life,  and the lives of famous Christians to name just a few.  Contributions to the Chapel offering go to Heart of God Haiti and Pioneer Christian Hospital in Congo.  This year we are helping support a former student of ours, Olivia Harvey, who is serving as a midwife at the hospital.
