While our curriculum and technology have been upgraded, one tradition GCCS has carried on for more than 25 years is the school-wide focus study. Every March, each grade level studies a selected topic. This study is integrated into all subject areas: English, Science, Social Studies, Art, Music, Physical Education.
Our entire schoolhouse is decorated for the month. You may walk into an Italian bistro (like when the school studied Italy) or see The Great Wall of China spanning the halls (like when the school studied China.) The end of the study culminates with a school-wide celebration and feast. Students share what they have learned in an assembly, and all school families get together for the scrumptious Focus Feast, featuring foods from the area of study.
